Venice is surely one of the best places to go in Italy. Known as the shopper’s paradise you can find whatever you are looking for from high fashion, antiques, furniture, home décor and more. From Piazza San Marco to the Rialto area, the Mercerie and Calle dei Fabbri have been the main shopping streets in Venice for hundreds of years. Hosting some interesting and unusual shops there is always quite a crowd of shoppers.

In the San Marco area in Venice top designer outlets are found in abundance. Names such as Armani, Laura Biagiotti, Gucci, Prada, Valentino, and Versace just to name a few are all located near the Piazza. For a more contemporary or even outrageous look you can go to Fiorella in Campo Santo Stefano where these types of shops can be found. In the shops around the Mercerie, you will find a great selection of leather goods, including handbags, shoes, wallets and an array of colorful, traditional Venetian slippers. Venice is also known for its fine silks and velvets and many shops sell an enormous array of fabrics.

The nearby island of Murano is the best place to visit for Venetian glassware. Having been made there for over 700 years you will find glassware with simple, traditional, and contemporary designs. There are several shops in the San Marco area that sell both the original and reproductions of the antique glassware.

Venice is also well known for its amazing masks and costumes. Inexpensive mass produced masks can be easily purchased anywhere in the city. However, genuine masks which can make a great souvenir have some truly splendid, unique, eye catching designs. Mask makers are extremely busy right before carnival time but most will welcome tourists and demonstrate their craft, some even allowing the tourists to get involved in the creation of their own mask.
The arcades of Piazza San Marco are home to Venice’s best jewelry makers. Missiaglia and Nardi are two of the famous jewelers providing their creations in Venice. There is a huge amount of jewelry displayed here something for everyone’s taste and budget. Closer to the Rialto bridge you can find more jewelers, these selling less expensive designs including bracelets, chains, earrings, necklaces, and the traditional glass beads called ‘perle veneziane’ which can also make a great souvenir. Same as in the United States the jewelry prices are based on the weight and cost of the gold at that particular moment.

Ancient Greeks introduced Olives to Provence more than two and a half thousand years ago. Today they are found in nearly everything from sauces, salads, tarts, pizza, and when mixed with capers and blended to a paste it is spread on bread or biscuits, and even can be found in the traditional beef stew. Olive oil is the always the start for Provence cooking, often spiced with chilies or herbs it can also be poured on pizza, sandwiches, and salads. The most popular addition to olive oil would be garlic, Two of the best known concoctions are “Pistou” which is a paste of olive oil, garlic and basil and “aioli” a name for both a garlic mayonnaise and a dish which it’s served with of salted cod and vegetables.

Vegetables seem to always be in season in Provence often starting while northern France is still in the middle of winter. Ratatouille ingredients such as tomato, capsicum, aubergines, courgettes, onion and asparagus are the favorites. Corgette flowers stuffed with the Pistou paste is one of their most tasty delicacies.

Sheep provide the staple meat often roasted with Provencal herbs but fish is what is featured most on the menu, fresh water trout, salt cod, anchovies, sea bream, sea bass, monkfish, and whiting are all common in the area as are clams, periwinkles, oysters, spider crabs, and sea urchins.

Cheeses are made from goat’s milk or Ewes milk. Two of the most popular are Banon which is wrapped in chestnut leaves and marinated in a brandy and Picadon which comes from the foothills of the Alps.
Sweets in this area include chocolates, almond sweets called calissons, candied fruit and nougat. As for fruit there are melons, white peaches, apricots, figs, cherries, and Muscat grapes. Their honey is made from Almonds and lavender which certainly give it a distinct flavor.

Wines in Provence are mostly produced in the Cotes du Rhone vineyards, of which the most celebrated is Crozes- Heritage appellation. The best wines are found in the villages around the Dentelles namely Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Off to the west are the light, drinkable but not exceptionally special wines. Huge quantities of wine are made in Provence with many of the vineyards having been planted during WWl to supply each French soldier a litre a day. However, the very best wines found in Provence come from along the coastline.

There are certain things that make a place stand out as a great vacation spot. Arizona has the Grand Canyon, Florida has Disney World and Ibiza has its night clubs. This is definitely not a trip for the family but a spring break trip or a get together with a bunch of friends this trip could prove to be rather entertaining. If you can remember it that is!

For first timers wondering what on earth is Ibiza? I will explain it to you. Ibiza is a tiny island approximately 90 kilometers off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean. It belongs to the group of Balearic Islands. Some local areas include Ibiza Town which is the Capital and probably the most captivating part of the island. Other than that city the majority of the others are in themselves their own little resorts. One would never guess from the beauty of the landscape that this Island’s tourism attraction is their night club action.
There are seven main night clubs on Ibiza: Amnesia and Privilege are located in the middle of the island near San Rafael, Club Eden is located in San Antonio as is Es Paradis, El Divino is in the Ibiza Marina and Pacha is located fairly close to the marina as well. Club Space is in Playa d’en Bossa near the beach. One unique feature of the Ibiza clubs is that the entertainment at each club changes, meaning the type of music played in each club varies from night to night. If you are raring for a good time for example for a bachelor party or bachelorette party or even an unconventional wedding the people of Ibiza are sure to help you out. It may resemble one big college party but they must be doing something right to have as many visitors as they do year after year. Weddings aren’t the only intimate travel plans to Ibiza. It is also known for extremely memorable Honeymoons. So whether you want to do the whole shebang on the island you can choose from the hip hotels, to the 4 star luxury resorts or romantic hideaways for two. The people of Ibiza promise you will absolutely have the time of your life and a one of a kind ceremony which I can totally understand since learning about Ibiza. Though a party town it may be it can also offer some pretty romantic escapes as well. As long as you are of legal drinking age visiting Ibiza is sure to be a great time.

Even though Iceland is a very small country and doesn’t have a lot of people living there, it still gets a lot of visitors on a daily basis, not only for business or other needs but also for sightseeing purposes. It is quite possible for people to be flabbergasted by the beauty of its landscapes; the rushing water and the galloping horses is a sight that everyone would love to see!

The name of the country is quite strange, you might figure by just reading the name that this country is a cold one, well no! that is not that case, the country doesn’t stay cold for all year round. In fact only about 10% of the country is icy, the rest of it has mild weather and this makes it perfect for tourists to visit this beautiful country.

Once you get here, you will now have to start worrying about your transportation, well in Iceland the most convenient form of transport is by a car, almost everyone owns one and you might find even drivers well below the age of 18 driving around, if you are new to this area, it would be best that you decided to go out and rent a car. Not only will this allow you to rest during your trips but also make it a lot easier to travel between destinations. Even though the roads are fairly straight and its really difficult to get lost in Iceland, but whey even waste that 5 extra minutes right? You haven’t spent hundreds of dollars just to get lost and find your way back to the hotel!

Even though renting a car is a great idea, it doesn’t come for free now does it? A normal car in Iceland is likely to cost you around ISK 7000/day but however if you are thinking of getting a Four Wheel Drive or an SUV those are more expensive and cost around ISK 12,000/day. Even though it is possible for you to rent the vehicle on the basis of kilometers, this will be more expensive.

If you don’t just want to stick to the ring road which is around 1500km, you might want to try to get an off road vehicle, even though these roads can be dangerous because they are bumpy and you never know where a hill might pop up. Also you would be required to cross various different streams, these streams however can only be passed between June and August.

You can even get a license for yourself if you are visiting from the United States or Canada, however remember this is only for a short time period.

If you really want to get the best out of your visit to Iceland, remember to rent a car!

Going to Iceland from Scandinavia? Then check Afbudsrejse Island for a cheap last minute travel deal - or you could go on and read more Travel Tips.
